The officers and members of the Jacksonville Retired Firefighter Association are saddened to report that

Retired JFRD Lieutenant Walter P. Rew 79 of Atlantic Beach, FL passed away on Wednesday, April 05, 2023.

He was hired in 1967 with Atlantic Beach Fire Department and rose to the rank of Fire Chief.

The ABFD was later consolidated with JFRD and He left the job in 1994 with 27 years of service.

Over his tenure as Chief, he gave many firefighters their first job who ultimately became JFRD Firefighters.

"Wally" had a son in law Dennis Herriman who was also on JFRD.
