The officers and members of the Jacksonville Retired Firefighter Association are saddened to report that
Active Duty JFRD Rescue Engineer John Powell passed away Sunday January 16, 2022.
A time of visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM

John was an avid runner. He was proud to finish in the top 10%
in the 2021 Gate River Run with a time of 1:02:32. He was working towards a goal
of running every road in Jacksonville and had already completed all roads in the
Mandarin area. He enjoyed dirt biking, boating, kneeboarding, and wakeboarding
at his family’s lake house. John loved playing board games with his family. He
enjoyed traveling to new places and climbing Florida’s beautiful lighthouses.
John attended Mandarin Christian School from Kindergarten through 8th grade and
graduated from Creekside High School in 2012. He then studied to become a
certified EMT and Firefighter. Following in his father and grandfather’s
footsteps, John was a dedicated member of the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue
Department. He served the City of Jacksonville for seven years, beginning his
career in 2015.
John is survived by his parents Donny and LeeAnne Powell and sister Stephanie
Powell, grandparents John and Norma Powell, Uncle Danny Powell (Sandi), Uncle
Kelly McEvoy (Debbie), and numerous cousins, friends, and coworkers who loved
him.
