The Jacksonville Retired Firefighter's Association. Jacksonville, Florida.
PORTER On June 6, 2010 God took his child, Jim Porter, home to be with Him. On earth he will be missed and continually loved by his best friend and wife of 48 years, Linda; his sons, Gary and Greg (and Greg's wife, Lisa); grandchildren: Leslie, Lauren, John and Jenna; and special gift from God, Jordan, his great grandson. Jim served as a Jacksonville firefighter for 25 years and rode on the first rescue squad for the city. He was honored and proud to have been a part of the World Champion Rescue Team in Atlantic City, NJ. Jim also compiled photos and history for the first Fire Division yearbook in 1973 as well as playing a major role in the creation of the Jacksonville Fire Museum. He was passionate about Nascar racing as a fan, car owner and a track official at the former Jax Raceways. Jim was a faithful member of Gardenview Baptist Church and cherished all his many friends. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 10, at Gardenview Baptist Church, with Rev. Bob Loy officiating. Interment is in Riverside Memorial Park. The family received friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday at COREY-KERLIN FUNERAL HOME, 1426 Rowe Ave.
