Lynda,
Nothing I can say will make you feel better
right now. I wish there was a way I could take
the hurt away. All of your neighbors are hurting
as well. Gill was a good friend and neighbor.
Cindy and I will miss his smile as he walked the
dogs down Haddock Road. Gill is walking in
Heaven right now watching over us like he did
for so many years. Your in our thoughts and
prayers |

Today we
heard of your passing, we had the great honor of
watching and loving you for a long long time.
You were just a small boy when you came into our
lives and hearts your whole family. We grew up
together living next door to you Gill. The
memories that we carry in our hearts no-one can
ever take that away. We can see your smiling
face as we all dug for worms to go fishing, and
who got the biggest worm. My mother Betty Taylor
watched over you boys, and little Kathy as if
you were her own. Always a door open for you as
you all knew it. There was never a sad face for
us because we had been given a very special
life. God had gave us all the green fields to
play our softball, to hear the laughter that
echoed though the yards. The dirt roads of
smiling faces to ride our bikes. And the free
spirit of running threw the rain on a rainy day
just to run under something to cover us. The joy
of swinging from an old tire to jump into the
pond. Oh what a wonderful childhood we all had
that some will never know. There is so much love
still today in our hearts as there was the first
day we met you, we will truly miss you Gill. And
our hearts are saden. So Lynda we never had the
pleasure of meeting you, but you had to be
someone special to recieve such a gift as Gill.
Our prayers go to you and your family. The
Taylor family- Betty, Linda, Laura, David, &
Doug |

Dear Lynda,
We are so heartbroken for you and Amanda. Gil
was one of those special people who touched a
part of your heart the first time you met him.
We'll miss seeing him walking the dogs and
stopping for a chat. A favorite memory is Gil in
his pick-up with his team of dogs keeping him
company while he ran errands. We will miss his
kind heart and warming smile. You and Amanda are
in our thoughts and prayers.
With love and deepest sympathy. |

My first
memories of Gil begin around 3 years ago when I
was fostering kitties for NHS (Nassau Humane
Society). Lynda Mixson, Gil’s wife, was the
director of the shelter at that time, and he was
an animal control officer. I had recently lost a
kitten who had failed to thrive. Gil’s
compassion both for the kitten and his empathy
for me I found surprising, impressive and deeply
touching.
My next recollection is working together on a
NHS float for the Shrimp Festival Parade. There
was Gil, doing whatever was needed to get the
job done. We smiled, laughed and had a great
time. I soon learned if you needed something
accomplished call Gil- he could create it, fix
it or maintain it- handyman Extraordinaire’!
Some of you might have known him as an animal
control officer for Nassau County. His love for
animals was mirrored in the hours of
volunteerism he gave to RAIN (Rescuing Animals
In Nassau). One visit to the 13 acre property in
Callahan and it becomes evident the hard work
Gil has put in making that dream become a
reality.
This past Thursday, 3/19/09, the retired 28 year
Jacksonville Fireman, climbed a ladder at his
home in Yulee to cut a tree limb. He fell, it
cost him his life. It cost my dear friend Lynda
a loving husband, Amanda a devoted Father and
the animals a caring champion. It cost the rest
of us that rare individual “an Earth Angel”, a
man who did not talk it, but who did walk it.
Gil chose to live his life by the Golden Rule.
Our loss of Gil Mixson is without measure, but
must be truly Heavens gain! |
