Clarence Whitney "Mac" McDonald Sr.
McDONALD On June 15, 2009 Clarence (Mac) Whitney McDonald, Sr. passed away peacefully. He is remembered as a true and faithful husband, father, leader, but mostly a friend. Mac was a lifelong residence of Jacksonville, a graduate of Landon High School and Florida Community College of Jacksonville; he served 27 years with the Jacksonville Fire Department retiring at the rank of Lieutenant from Station 30 in 1986. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve for 43 years retiring at the rank of Chief Personnelman in 1992; he owned his own business for several years; and was an instructor and trainer for his sons, neighbors, friends and brother firefighters on several trades and skills throughout his entire lifetime. Clarence was preceded in death by his sons Clarence Whitney, Jr. and William and is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Ruth; sons David (Mary), Joel (Marilyn) and Kevin (Belinda); 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters Louise and Mavis; brother Carl; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services were held June 18, 2009 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., South and his interment at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:00pm.
