The officers and members of the Jacksonville Retired Firefighter Association are saddened to report that
JFRD Retired Engineer Larry R. Lee passed away Wednesday March 28, 2018.
LEE
Larry R. Lee, 75, passed away March 28, 2018. He was born October 6, 1942 in
Columbia, SC to the late George L. Lee and D. Gentry Lee. He graduated in 1961
from Landon Senior High School. Larry then served in the army, as part of the
82nd Airborne Division from 1962 until his honorable discharge in 1967. He went
on to join the Jacksonville Fire Department, serving as a fire fighter and
engineer from 1969 until his retirement in 1996. Larry also worked as a long
distance truck driver. He was an avid reader and loved riding his motorcycle
until he was no longer able to do so. Larry was very loyal and generous to his
family, providing support to his mother until her death. Larry was predeceased
by his sister Nancy Sofge of Tallahassee. Survivors include his daughter
Christine Smith (Terry) of Gravity, IA, grandchildren, Patrick Hayes, Heather
Smith and Austin Smith, his sister Gentry Martin of Jacksonville and his brother
George L. Lee (Christine) of Keystone Heights and many nieces and nephews.
Interment will be at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
Funeral services will be private.
