The officers and members of the Jacksonville Retired Firefighter Association are saddened to report that

Retired Battalion Chief Johnny P. Hires, born 11/20/1938, passed away 6/24/2024.

Chief Hires had been in declining health recently and was in a care facility south of Jacksonville.

He was hired as a firefighter on 8/30/1963 and retired at the rank of Battalion Chief in 1996 serving the citizens of Jacksonville for 33 years.

A memorial service is planned for 10:00 AM on Thursday July 11, 2024 at the
Jacksonville Firefighter's Hall
