Marvin L. Hayes Jr.
Marvin LeRoy "Lee" Hayes, Jr., 64, of Interlachen, began his life-long journey
Sept. 2, 1946, in Washington D.C., and entered into eternal rest Saturday, Dec.
4, 2010, at Putnam Community Medical Center.
He had lived in Interlachen since 1985, coming from Jacksonville, where he lived
for many years and was a Jacksonville fireman with 23 years of service. He had a
career in the U.S. Navy for several years and also served in the National Guard.
He became involved with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office when it formed its
auxiliary unit and was a member for 20 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge
34 F&AM in Palatka, the Putnam County Shrine Club, the Morocco Temple Shrine in
Jacksonville and a member of American Legion Post 293 in Interlachen. Lee was a
devoted son, husband, father, grandpa and friend to all. "Sadness fills our
lives and hearts now that you are gone. We hold on by knowing we will see you
again. Lee, rest easy and know we love, cherish, and hold dear to our memories
of you, until we meet again, my friend."
Lee leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Martha Linda Hayes of Interlachen; son,
R.L. "Randy" Hayes Sr., and wife, Mary of Interlachen; parents, Mary and Marvin
Hayes Sr. of Titusville; sister, Carol Sue Pinkey and husband, Lenny of Sneads
Prairie, N.C.; four grandchildren, Samantha L. Hayes, Randall L. "Randy" Hayes
Jr., Mason Jacob Hayes and Logan Kaleb Hayes, all of Interlachen; and a cousin,
George Padgett of Tracys Landing, Md.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday Dec. 9, at the Johnson-Overturf
Funeral Home in Interlachen with Charles Daniell Jr., Randy Hayes Sr., and
Johnny Bazemore officiating. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office conducted
funeral honors and Masonic Lodge 34 F&AM conducted Masonic Rites. The U.S.
Navy conducted military honors.
