The officers and members of the Jacksonville Retired Firefighter Association are saddened to report that

Retired JFRD Lieutenant Donald Ray Carter passed away 7/14/2024.

His health was deteriorating recently and he was placed in hospice where he passed.

He was assigned to Squad 22 A for a number of years.

Donald Ray Carter, aged 90, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024. He was born on July 9, 1934, in Starke, FL.

At age 18, he began an apprenticeship at N.A.S. Jax. He enlisted in the Navy at age 19 and served for the next 8 years as a Master Machinist. He also worked at Grumman before joining the Jacksonville Fire Department, retiring as a Lieutenant after 20 years. He concluded a successful career as a real estate broker and teacher at Don Carter Realty Company.

Don's faith was a cardinal aspect of his life. He was a founding member and music director of New Hope Baptist Temple, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is recognized for his compassion and dedication to his family.

Don is survived by his wife, Latrelle; daughter, Donna Carter; son, Derrick Carter (Judy); grandchildren, Chris Hodges, Matthew Carter (Ashley), Donnie Carter (Ashley), Jonathan Carter (Kirrah), Nathan Carter, Anna Grace Carter; and great-grandchildren, Abigail Hodges, Rebecca Hodges, Judah Carter, and Jacob Carter. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Louise Carter, and his grandchildren, Daniel Lee Hodges Jr. and Caleb Adam Carter.

His family and friends will have a time of celebration and remembrance with food and fellowship at New Hope Baptist Temple, 9900 103rd Street
