Evans Howard - I was sorry to hear of the passing of retired JFRD Battalion
Chief JOHN R. BUNN. I first knew him as Captain on E-28 and a good fireman.
Later he was promoted to district Chief and was Fire-3-A. From time to time he’d
stop in for a station visit, never stayed too long. I was Engineer on Engine
50-A, on this particular day back in 94, we had a roving Lieutenant working in.
So Chief Bunn came by and just before he left, he told this officer “let me see
you outside for a minute”. They were out there quite awhile. After the Chief
left, this officer came back inside and began to apologize to me. Well I didn’t
know what was going on or what he was talking about. Turns because my dad’s
funeral had been a few shifts ago and Capt Terry Dennis of Engine 42 was going
to stand by at the cemetery entrance. But they got a run, called communication
ask them to call Engine 51 to go and stand in. Well because this particular
officer was watching golf on TV he told them that his crew didn’t want to do
that, which the crew knew nothing about. So that was a lie😊. Short story long.
Johnny Bunn chewed him a New one 😂. That was the reason for all the apologies.
Engine 42 did make it😊. He could and would get on your case in a heartbeat !
Later on when he was promoted to Battalion Chief F-1. Chief Bunn always treated
me as a company officer, with the greatest respect and relied on my decisions
when I was on scene, and I also respected him and his leadership. He spent over
30 yrs serving the citizens of Jacksonville. Rest In Peace Sir and Thanks for
your Service.

human we all are! And that there is always some goodness. I didn’t know Chief
Bunn very well but I do recall him in some scenes. He always seemed to be fair
and hard working Chief.
Rose Allen - RIP

Nick Tison - John Hatcher I was thinking that.

would never know it.

crash".Just then he arrived...I still remember him getting of the Chief
car---let's just say he was not a happy chief.. But he was also good too me.

honest and direct. I heard it from him directly. Both of us gave in, and both
wanted best for our firefighters.

administration. I always respected him. God speed sir.
