Captain Raymond E. Smith Sr. (Buddy Boy)

SMITH Raymond E. "Buddy Boy" Smith, Sr., 80, Answered his Final Alarm Tuesday, November 20, 2007 due to a lengthy illness. Raymond retired from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, as a Captain, after 46 years of dedicated service. His assigned stations were: Engine 10, Engine 14, Engine 19, Engine 32, Ladder 13,and Marine 3. He was a member of Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Honor Guard for 13 Years and served on the Board of Directors of the Jacksonville Fireman's Credit Union for over 30 years. He also worked for McCall's Fuel Service for 25 years. Raymond served as a clerk for the Duval County Elections, Precinct 14L, for over 35 years. He was Deacon at Harvest Ministries for many years. Among his many hobbies he was an avid fisherman. Raymond is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Jean Smith, his two sons, Retired Captain E41C Raymond E. "Ed" Smith, Jr., wife Linda, and Retired Captain E12C Richard E. "Gene" Smith, wife Jeanie, his three grandchildren, Firefighter Ryan E. Smith E27A, Brittany Smith, LaRae (Ted) Abney, and his two great-grandchildren, Lindsey Abney and Logan Abney, Great Nephew Engineer David Smith T32B. A Special thanks to All Saints Catholic Nursing Home, North Wing, and Community Hospice of Northeast Florida for all of their loving care. The family received friends Sunday, November 25, 2007, 6 to 8PM, at Harvest Ministries Church, 2550 Fouraker Road, Jacksonville, Fl 32210. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 26, 2007, 11AM, at Harvest Ministries Church, 2550 Fouraker Road, Jacksonville, Fl 32210 with the Reverend Bascomb Smith officiating. Procession to and interment is to follow at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, Fl 32205. Arrangements made by Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home Edgewood Chapel.
