Greetings everyone, I hope this email finds you well.  This isn’t just another week as we recognize the 13th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks which is now recognized as Patriot Day.  A lot to go over this week, so let’s get started…

  • TIC’s—passed Awards yesterday.  Soon a purchase order will be cut and we can begin taking delivery of the new and much needed thermal imaging cameras!

  • 4x4 New Rescue’s—are coming along.  Here’s a couple of pics.  We’re working on getting the regular colored chevron decals on the back.

  • New Pierce Engines—we leave the first week in October to final the first 4 units off the floor.  Once that’s done, they will be enroute to Florida.  By the end of October, the other 4 will be completed as well.  Here’s the link to the build if you would like to follow along:  Yes, it will have a Federal-Q…

  • Budget—we’re still going through the process on this one.  Don’t listen to rumors at the table.  Nothing is set until 9-23 when the full Council votes.  There is a lot of action behind the scene between all departments and Council committees to work through issues as they currently exist.

  • Call Volumes—one aspect of the On Scene newsletter I constantly get request for are monthly run totals,  I get it.   John Bracey has graciously agreed to provide the totals when the newsletter is not published for the month.  Attached is August.

Let’s see some of the runs you’ve gone on this week:

  • FD50 EXTRICATION 2 TRAPPED BEACH BLVD AND KERNAN..TGB1..1 PT TRAUMA ALERT..

Time go give some thanks…

  • To everyone at the Training Academy who recently completed another great recruit class.  Few know the amount of work that goes into teaching at 56 hour, non-24 hour shift class per week.  Add onto that, the preparation of the graduating ceremony, the staff’s normal lives and family take a back seat to making sure our new folks are ready for our inherently dangerous job.  Thank you for another sacrifice to better our cause.
  • To Prov. Lt. Dennis Herrmann—I just want everyone to know what a class act he is.  I was in a predicament with the bulletin and rather than bump someone out of a position, which he is entitled to do,  he said we would let the current engineer stay and keep the current crew together.  Thank you for making something easy on me today.
  • To Gary Daly—From Station 1.  The guys called and couldn’t thank you enough for everything you are doing to get Station 1 ready for the Sea of Blue.  I know the rest of the department thanks you as well.
  • To explorer Post 83 and 29—for assisting with our Recruit graduation last night.  Thank you for taking the time to usher all the family and friends into the auditorium.

Time for the Quote of the WIR:

  • "The challenge of leadership is to be strong but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not a bully; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly"  Jime Rohn
    • Congrats to all the new officers today and I hope you see what a valuable opportunity to grow professionally this is.
  • "I love being married. It's so great to find that one special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life."—unknown
    • This one just makes me lol.

Well that’s it for this WIR.  I hope everyone everyone has a great weekend and I hope you get to spend it with family and friends.  As for me, I need a mental day after this week which will include college football, fried-anything with cheese dipped in ranch with bacon, and a few beverages.  Better double up on the old collesterol meds tonight…

Please continue to have our folks in your thoughts and prayers as some are truly having a tough time.

As always, we thank you for what you do, why you do it, and for always showing why you are truly the Best Fire Rescue Department in the Country!

Very Respectfully,

Kurtis R. Wilson
