Burn Camp Dates Set!
The IAFF Burn Foundation (IAFFBF) will be hosting the 17th Annual International
Burn Camp from September 22 through September 29, 2012. The IAFFBF International
Burn Camp has earned international acclaim over the last decade.
Each year, the Foundation selects young burn survivors, aged 13-15, and
professional fire fighters/camp counselors from regional burn camps across the
United States and Canada. These individuals come to the Nation's Capital for the
week-long program which includes tours of the monuments, memorials and museums,
visits with national leaders and other activities involving local IAFF members.
The camp was developed to give young burn survivors the opportunity to explore
Washington, DC and share their experiences with other teens that have fought
back courageously and successfully from burn injuries. This year, we will be
improving the program by working through a newly formed burn camp committee.
Some of the changes include an additional day of camp, involvement of experts in
the field of burn camps such as the International Association of Burn Camps (IABC),
and more robust psychosocial support for the campers and counselors through the
assistance of the Phoenix Society.
